so more about eating joints close to our area:

barbeque nation at nerul: this chain is recently opened in navi mumbai. it is worth a visit. there are non-stop barbeque food being served on the table. also the regular menu of main course with a variety of desserts is available to relish. highly recommended for foodies.

yoko sizzlers a joint near barrista, chembur diamond garden is also a good place for a change, or tasting for sizzlers.

we have already visited both couple of times, it is excellent & so thought of sharing.

epiSTEME 4 — Fourth international conference to review research on Science, TEchnology and Mathematics Education

January 5-9, 2011 (wed-sun) ; Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (TIFR), Mumbai, India

The epiSTEME conferences occupy a unique position as they bring together researchers in science, technology and mathematics education in an interdisciplinary exchange. Research in STME is inspired by cognitive, pedagogical, historical, philosophical and socio-cultural aspects of the sciences.

The name epiSTEME connotes, at one level, a systematic study of knowledge, while as an acronym it suggests a meta-view of science, technology and mathematics education. epiSTEME 4 conference will include review talks, paper and poster sessions and group discussions.

icecream parlour and cake shop

this is to share the information that we now have amul ice cream parlour and croissants cake shop in the vicinity. these are located in front of BARC gate no. 6, adjacent to the central bank.

so this place is quite close to relish. if anyone plans to go, i am game

This time I would like to draw attention to words that are commonly mispronounced…..jotting down a few from memory, feel free to add to the list:

Economy, economic; intrigue; controversy; academy, academics, academia.
There are online dictionaries you can use to hear the correct way to pronounce these – check them out! You can google the word!
Ah – that leads me to another little project: how many words, originally nouns, can you think of that are now being used as verbs? And vice versa?

Pleasing the senses

All life forms seem to exhibit a tendency to please the senses. In human forms, the tendency seems to be growing more and more as the civilization is getting more and more materialistic.
In some of the older civilizations, some of the weighed values were related to controlling the senses or training the senses. I do not understand much rationale behind this philosophy of life, but I can relate this to the ecofriendly life styles of human beings in older times. The technology that emerged from such philosophy, seems to me having more of survival and sustainability values of civilizations.
But looking at the present civilization, of which I am a part, I find the pleasure of senses to be the most important goal of life. If someone has an access to some resource, which can please the senses, then generally a person believing in modern materialistic philosophy finds little reasoning behind not using them.
I again find a relationship between the eco-hazardous human life styles and the present philosophy of pleasing the senses.
I have a question here; If a sense pleasing resource is available to a person, and the person is using it inspite of the knowledge of the fact of its being eco-hazardous, who is to be blamed? The person? The resource provider? The philosophy? Or something else? Or should really one be blamed at all, for the hazards to the environment and nature?
